I\u2019ve been going on lately about \u201cGood News Disguised as Bad News<\/a>.\u201d And while it\u2019s pretty difficult to see any silver lining in last week\u2019s IPCC (The UN\u2019s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) report<\/a> that said, basically, we have 12 years to prevent runaway, devastating climate disruption, maybe this will provide the galvanization we need to both get our act together and get more people and organizations onboard.<\/p>\n

A case in point is a post<\/a> yesterday in The New School\u2019s page in Medium. In it, a faculty member and friend, Raz Godelnick, asked nine other Parsons and New School faculty members \u2013 including me \u2013 to share responses to the report and make suggestions about what to do next, with an emphasis on what we, as profs, can do within our teaching.<\/p>\n

Among the various insightful contributions, many discussed ways to interest and involve students. Mine described what has become a theme of my research and teaching: that artists and designers have the ability to craft messages that appeal to those who don\u2019t respond to scientific data (or who don\u2019t accept the data).<\/p>\n
